I love the picture of the Cereus. I just read a book by Dorothy Canfield Fisher called, "The Brimming Cup." There was such a beautiful scene in the book in which people gather to watch the night blooming Cereus and how for one night a year their ordinary lives were transformed by that flower that bloomed once a year and only at night. After I read that scene, I had to research that flower. Of course, I learned it is part of myth that it blooms only once a year. Nonetheless, a beautiful flower still and I still loved the book.
If you're going to read about Florida flowers, you should read the Orchid Thief.
Whether you saw the movie or not, you should still read the book because the movie had NOTHING to do with the book. The book was great, the author is awesome (met her at Inkwood Books and loved her!) and the movie-makers CHEATED and made a movie about how the book was impossible to make into a movie.
